'In their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as dazzling as light. And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him.'

Gospel according to Saint Matthew 17:2-3

Six days after announcing his Passion, Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain. There he shows them his divine glory. Moses, who received the Law, and Elijah, the greatest of the prophets, appear at his side: the Law and the Prophets bear witness to Christ. A bright cloud covers them and the Father's voice says: 'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.' The apostles fall on their faces, overcome with fear. The Coptic Church celebrates the Transfiguration on 13 Mesra (19 August), among the minor feasts of the Lord.
