Archangel Raphael accompanies young Tobias, sent to Media by his father Tobit. Appearing as the traveller Azarias, he guides him and teaches him how to use the fish from the Tigris: its heart and liver will drive away the demon tormenting Sarah, and its gall will cure Tobit's blindness.
This composition brings Raphael and Tobias together on their journey. The heavenly companion makes God's care visible in travel, healing and family life. At the end of the account, Raphael reveals that he is one of the seven angels who stand before the glory of the Lord.
