“On this day, the Church commemorates Saint Hermione, daughter of Philip the Evangelist. She had received from God the gift of healing the sick and casting out demons.”
Coptic Synaxarium
Philip, one of the seven deacons chosen by the apostles, “had four virgin daughters who prophesied” (Acts 21:9). Hermione, one of them, went to Ephesus where she devoted her life to caring for the sick free of charge. According to tradition, she founded one of the first houses for the sick and pilgrims, and died a martyr under Emperor Hadrian. Her tomb became a place of healing.
